Update on Playground Equipment Installation
The Potwin Parks and Rec board have been working with city staff, the city council and the Lions Club (who originally purchased the equipment), to get it installed. Here are the latest details:
  • We managed to find the originally company and the person who installed it in Andover who has been very helpful with sending us the detailed drawings needed for installation.
  • We’ve also been in contact with a professional installer who works for the company about either supervising volunteers to install it, or install it with his own crew. Those prices were out of our budget, but he gave us a lot of helpful suggestions.
  • One of the questions he had was if our city insurance would cover used equipment and the answer is, yes.
  • The next big question is where to install it. While we are recommending repairs to the current wooden structures at King Park in honor of both Johnny Sommers and his parents, John and Dorothy, we have no plans tear those structures down. Those wonderful families are our heritage.
  • We are working on a comprehensive plan for Veteran Memorial Park (where the ball diamond is) that would include walking paths, outside exercise equipment, shelter house or two, a pickle ball court, maybe a splash park and, of course, the playground equipment would fit nicely there – it takes up a LOT of room by the time you get the safe-landing area included. We are working on preliminary sketches and have identified grants to apply for to help with the cost. Also in our plans are utilizing the ball diamond more regularly.
Although it might not look like anything is being done, a LOT of planning is going into this and our goal is to have it up in 2025!
